Good morning friends,
The kids are finally finished school, and we have just arrived at our lake house for the week. It feels like summer is really here! Last week my friend Casey shared the details of her eye-make up routine on her blog, which you can read by clicking here. I always love reading about how other people, apply make-up and I am also curious about the products they use and love. Both in the comments of the post and later over on intagram, Casey’s readers were also sharing their favourite eye make up, which was so awesome. There really is nothing like a personal recommendation from someone who has tried and loved a product. I bought not one, but two mascaras from that online discussion! I ordered this one from Amazon and then picked up this one from Target.
I have always been obsessed with beauty products. As a matter of fact, one of my first jobs was as a cashier at a pharmacy and I used to pretty much blow half of my paycheque each week on make-up and skin care. I also remember reading a book back in highschool about animal testing in the beauty industry. I have always been an animal lover and I will never forget looking at images of little white bunnies being used for product testing. Since then, I have always been drawn to things that are “cruelty free” and not tested on animals. As a disclaimer, I am not taking a “holier-than-though” approach nor do I exclusively use products that are cruelty free, but it is something that I do try to seek out as best as I can. Many of the make-up suggestions that came as a result of Casey’s post were non-toxic and cruelty-free and it got me thinking about all of my favourite green make-up and skincare products and I decided to share them with you today!
I use this bubble bath almost every night. It is scented with essetial oils and super budget friendly. I usually stock up on this stuff when I am at Walmart.
I have used many products from Trader Joe’s over the years and am always really impressed, especially for the price! I just recently purchased this grapfruit handsoap and I LOVE it. The packaging is pretty, as always, and it smells so good.
Something that I stock up on quite often is the coconut body butter, it is really thick and hydrating. I just bought the avacado cucumber one and it smells so good – a nice summer scent!
The hair mask, body wash and tea tree facewash are staples in our shower. So many good smells!
I had heard a ton of awesome reviews of the Beauty Counter cleansing balm, and I was a bit hesitant to try it. I am normally a foaming cleanser kind of girl. I have to say, I fell in love with using this product at bedtime, especially during the winter months when my skin is more dry.
I love using micellar water after I wash my face, just to make sure I have gotten all of my make-up off. If I am too lazy to properly wash my face at nighttime – which happens far more often than I would like to admit – I use a healthy dose of this stuff on a cotton pad to remove my make up. I have really sensitive eyes and I have to be careful what I use, and the Simple brand works like a charm.
A good friend of mine (hi Jenn) introduced me to this brand when we were shopping at a local boutiqe. I bought this moisturizer and it is an absolute splurge. I am not sure it is worth the price when there are so many more affordable options out there, but it does smell amazing and feels like a good quality moisturizer.
Target just launched a new skincare line “Versed relies on powerful, clean ingredients that fight everything from dryness to acne to aging”. It uses clean and cruelty free ingredients and I purchased the face wash and moisturizer and really like both.
I have tried a few products from beauty counter and I have loved everything except the mascara, it didn’t work very well for me. My only issue with Beauty Counter is that the price point is a little higher, so these items are more of a splurge for me. One thing I have decided that I will always buy from now on is the Tint Skin Foundation. It runs at $51 for a small tube, but it lasts me about a year! You really don’t need much. I also love the Dew Skin Tinted Moistuizer. This is a bit lighter for the summer months.
Pixi by Petra
I have been using the Pixi mascara for over a year now and it works really well on my blonde, stubby little eyelashes. I just bought the bronzing blush and am loving it as well. It came with a really great little blush brush…often when a blush comes with a mini brush, it is kinda useless
The letters stand for “Every eye, lip and face” and they provide cruelty-free, paraban free products. The primer is a “new-to-me” product that was recommended by Casey in her post. She uses it on her eyes before applying her make-up. I have been using it on my whole face. I can’t honestly say that it really reduces the redness of my skin, but it feels really good and then my foundation goes on really well. It was a whopping $7 a bottle and I got it at Walmart. I don’t wear eye shadow very much, but when I do, I like this simple little duo. I also really like the pink blush. All of their products that I have used have been really good and I can’t get over how dang reasonable the price point is!
I have been using the eybrow pencil/comb combo for over a year now, and it is perfect for me. I wear the peach colored blush almost every day, it is my go-to color.
Well there you have a round up of the products that I use on a daily basis. If you have any favourites you would like to share, I would love to hear about them in the comments below! I love learning about and trying new things!
Thanks so much for reading!
