I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject of IKEA sofas...between our home and our lake house, I currently own 5 of them! We have 3 kids and 2 dogs, so when it comes to furniture, I look for durable pieces with washable upholstery.
I have shared my love of our Vimle sofa (which is now called the Finnala) and you can read my review here. Today I wanted to talk about our Stocksund sofa, and highlight some of my favorite features of it.
In our home, we are fortunate to have both a family room and a formal living room. Our stocksund sofa lives in the formal living room, which also doubles as my office.
When we moved into our current house, we spent a pretty considerable amount of money renovating, and there wasn't a lot left over for decorating and furniture. The Stocksund was kind of the answer to my decorating prayers, it was the look I wanted at a price I could afford. ($849) I have been really happy with this sofa, and here's why:
My style is a mix of traditional farmhouse meets modern. When the Stocksund sofa came out a few years ago, I first spotted it in the store, and then saw it in a few decorating magazines. I was smitten with it's traditional shape and light slipcovered fabric.
Honestly, I thought it looked very "potterybarn-esque" if that can be used as an adjective. Here is the Carlisle sofa from PB, aren't they similar?
In this season of life, one of the most important features of this sofa is the washable slipcovers. I want my family to be able to lounge on both of our sofas, but I am a clean freak so knowing that I can strip and wash the sofa covers allows me to relax. I am drawn to light colored furniture, but the only way I can justify having it is knowing I can wash it.
Lucy has been known to come inside from a muddy walk (we live in Vancouver where it rains 8 months out of the year!) and make a bee line for this sofa, dirty paws and all.
The good news is that if something gets spilled on this sofa, or if I just get tired of the color, I can easily replace the slipcovers. IKEA itself has pretty limited choices for this model, but BEMZ has hundreds of options!
This sofa is perfectly comfortable in our formal, less used Family Room. It isn't the kind of piece I would recommend as the main sofa for lounging, TV watching and napping because of it's delicate and traditional shape. For example, it wouldn't be a good fit for our family room where all 5 of us (plus 2 dogs) cuddle up for Netflix binges and movie nights. That being said, I spend a great deal of time on this sofa - I am actually sitting on it while I type this post. The seat is quite deep, so there is lots of room for throw pillows, my favorite! I find it to be cozy and comfortable, in my personal opinion.
We have had this sofa for 5 years now and it has held up quite well. The cushions have held their shape, which can be an issue with some sofas. I have washed the slipcovers many, many times now and the fabric still looks great. IKEA has a 10 year warranty on their sofas which I think is more than fair.
My basic takeaway here is that if you are looking for a pretty and durable sofa at a modest price, the Stocksund sofa is a great choice. I have been very happy with it for the last 5 years. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
