Decorating for Valentine’s Day

Happy Saturday everyone, and in our neck of the woods, it is a long weekend, wa-hooo! In BC, it’s family day on Monday which is a relatively new Statutory holiday. We are headed down to Seattle to Great Wolf Lodge. The kids are so excited! Well, the younger two are. Today I wanted to give you a quick tour of the Valentine’s day decor I put up around the house this week. While I don’t go all out like I do for Christmas, I do like to sprinkle some pink and red around the place. I just can’t help myself! So here are a few of the “love” inspired items I have on display right now to get us in the Valentine’s spirit. The first place that gets attention when there is a special occasion is our family room fireplace mantle. The painted white brick is one of my favorite elements in our home, and it is the perfect backdrop for any decor. I kept it simple and added 3 key decorative elements.

First up are the tulips from the grocery store. They were a little droopy when I put them in the Pitcher, but I remembered reading that if you poke a tiny pin prick below the flower, it helps them to stand up staight and I will be darned if it didn’t work!

On the other side of the mantle are the cute felt flowers I made earlier in the week. Tutorial is here if you want to make some for yourself!

My favorite decorative element for any special occasion is a festive garland, and I love to make them myself. I actually have little clear command hooks permanently attached to either side of my mantle to make hanging even easier.

This one was really simple, I just attached some yarn tassels and felt hearts to some red baker’s twine. I love the colors!

In the kitchen, I just added a few things to our baking area. I love baking, but this is particularly true around Valentine’s day, the heart shapes and the color pink just really inspire me! I bought this ombre measuring cup set years ago, and they are out year round, but are especially relevant this time of year!

We have this little “baking corner” in our kitchen. I keep all of our baking tools and dry ingredients in this area. I love when it looks neat and tidy like this…sadly this is more of the exception than the rule!

I am a sucker for a book with a cute cover, and this one from Jamielyn Nye certainly makes the cut! It’s a fun cookbook with easy recipe’s and cute crafts…you can see why it’s one of my fave’s!

I like to keep our most used baking ingredients on the counter. With the cute chalkboard labels, these canisters are a fun and functional addition to the decor!

I saw this little milk jug set at Pier 1 a few weeks back in the clearance section and I had to snap it up. The red striped straws were the kicker for me! I figured this could be used for Valentine’s day and Christmas. As you can see I am very good at justifying my shopping purchases!

And again with the ombre measuring cups…

My good friend Felicia, an amazing local photographer,  came over to give me a  photography lesson and she took this cool shot on my camera!

Well, that wraps up the tour! Just a few festive touches to our home to honor Valentine’s day. This weekend we need to get our class Valentine’s ready to hand out on Wednesday, my girls love doing this!

Hope everyone has a Love-ly weekend…get it?

Thanks for reading!
